Climate Change Explained [Teacher's page]

Project 01:     How Politics shapes Climate Change

The World is experiencing massive changes in weather patterns. The media uses terms such as 'Global Warming' and more recently 'Climate Change'. The United Nations chief calls for accelerating climate action on all fronts “Our world needs climate action on all fronts – everything, everywhere, all at once.” (March 2023: UN.org).

Recently the UN declared that their World Conferences have become the biggest ever assembled. Heads of States and Countries with their own specialists, secretaries, security people, security transport and many other issues such as accommodation, food and drink and so on.

Task 01: Using the above as the background, explain how having such high level meetings hasn't had any beneficial effects on reducing greenhouse gas emissions / carbon emissions. [GHG and carbon emissions are actually continuing to increase].

Task 02: Religion has a massive effect on a country. Some countries have more than one religion. Explain why religion can cause conflicts that have extreme consequences within and between countries. Include in your reasoning why the leaders of a country may not have any power over GHG and carbon emissions.

Task 03: The most valuable compound on the planet is water. Without it life cannot exist. More specifically fresh water for most land based creatures and plants. Saline water in the seas and oceans for very sophisticated food chains of sea creatures and plants.

Explain how and why man is actually poisoning the oceans and seas. Include in your presentation: desalination salts and other minerals and estrogen. On the land how and why is man continuing to make vast man-made deserts?

Task 04: We are constantly being corralled into believing that converting over to electric vehicles will help solve Climate Change. Explain, using downloaded data from car manufacturer's own websites the carbon emissions and other monitored gases from hybrid vehicles. Compare with similar sized vehicles currently available that use unleaded petrol or diesel. Analyse the 'small print' stating how the Hybrids vehicles should be used.

Task 05: HGVs are necessary. Without them 'civilisation' could barely exist. Is there a practical alternative though? Explain how massively changing lifestyles could significantly reduce the number of HGVs. As part of your presentation include why producing EV HGVs is impractical. Your presentation should be a global remedy. Countries such as the USA, Australia, Russia, China and Europe have vast distances to move goods and livestock.

Task 06: Hydrogen powered vehicles appears to be one practical solution to pollution. How is hydrogen produced commercially? 95% of Global hydrogen is produced using the same method. Explain why it is having a negative effect on reducing carbon emissions.
